Branches allow you to create an alternate version of your repository in isolation from changes that other user are making to the repository. You might create a new branch from the default branch of your repository to add new information or make changes to existing information.

When you are ready to integrate your changes, you can create a merge request to propose the changes be incorporated into a target branch (typically the default branch of the repository)
